Barb retainer rings are small but highly useful accessories designed to improve the stealth of a speargun shaft. Made from durable rubber, they slide directly onto the shaft and hold the barb firmly against it before firing.
Underwater, especially during ambush hunting or in swell, a loose barb can lift and fall repeatedly against the shaft. This movement creates a light metallic clicking sound that may alert wary fish and compromise the approach.
By keeping the barb in position, the retainer ring eliminates this unwanted noise and helps maintain a quieter setup. Before loading the speargun, simply slide the ring over the barb so that it remains pressed against the shaft.
When the shaft is fired and penetrates the fish, the pressure naturally pushes the ring along the shaft, releasing the barb so it can open and retain the catch. The ring remains on the shaft, greatly reducing the risk of losing it. Once the fish has been removed, the ring can simply be slid back into position.
Supplied in a pack of five, these rings provide a simple, durable and economical way to reduce unwanted noise and improve underwater stealth.
